JUDO/ BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU: At Five Crow we believe in taking the best of the martial arts and training them together. Judo was established in 1882 by Jigor Kano under the principle of maximum efficiency, minimum effort. Kano believed that Judo could make a person’s body as well as their mind better. From the beginning Judo focused on both throws and ground work, but over the years as it became an Olympic sport its focus has become on perfecting powerful throws. The ground work of Judo found a home in Brazil in 1917, where the Gracie family became the powerhouse of ground grappling with their style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu also called the gentle art has proven its power by dominating the beginnings of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in America. Five Crow is lucky to offer both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We are proud members of Virginia Academy of Judo association. We are an affiliate school of Trident Martial Arts under Master Rigan Machado in Woodbridge Virginia and the only certified and experienced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Hampton. Coach Rashad has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over seven years and continues to train regularly with his black belt instructor Professor Pat Tray.
